Dr. Furmli was born and raised in Toronto and is of Afghan heritage. He completed his undergraduate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Toronto, followed by medical school and a Family Medicine residency at the same institution.

Dr. Furmli is a Transport Canada–designated Marine Medical Examiner with extensive experience conducting Marine Medical examinations for seafarers, marine industry workers, and commercial vessel operators. He is highly knowledgeable in Transport Canada standards and ensures that every assessment is thorough, efficient, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
